About
Annie Hughes is a force of nature in American ultrarunning, a competitor who showed remarkable range and audacity at the sport's longest and most demanding distances at an exceptionally young age. From Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, she burst onto the scene in 2021 by becoming the youngest woman ever to win Leadville Trail 100 and, the same year, won the Moab 240 — two iconic American ultras spanning very different terrain and formats. In 2022 she produced what many consider the signature performance of her career: winning Cocodona 250 as first female and third overall, obliterating the previous course record by 14 hours. The same year she became the first woman to run High Lonesome 100 in under 24 hours. A Hoka athlete and run coach who also runs a bakery, Hughes suffered a significant injury that sidelined her through 2023 and 2024, but returned to competition in 2025 with a win at Tahoe 200. Her blend of speed, durability, and competitive instinct marks her as one of the most compelling ultrarunners of her generation.
