About
Angela Shartel is an American ultrarunner born in Japan to U.S. Navy parents and raised across multiple military bases — an upbringing that instilled resilience and an appetite for new terrain. She came to trail running in her late twenties through a trail marathon on Catalina Island and within a few years built one of the deepest résumés on the American 100-mile circuit. In 2013 she set the women's course record at the Angeles Crest 100 Mile (21:21:13), a relentlessly demanding race through the San Gabriel Mountains north of Los Angeles, and in 2016 won the FatDog 120 in British Columbia. Based in San Diego, she competed at the Transgrancanaria in 2016 and in 2019 became race director of the San Diego 100 Mile. Through her Ultra Transformation Camp she has mentored many runners into the sport, translating her own experience of radical personal transformation into coaching and community building.
