About

Amy Sproston is an American ultrarunner from Monmouth, Illinois who ran cross country at Luther College in Iowa before entering the ultra world in 2006. Her debut 50-miler placed her eighth; within months she had won a 50K and a 50-miler in consecutive outings — a trajectory that previewed a career of consistent excellence. Her defining result came at the 2012 IAU 100km World Championships, which she won outright. She has also earned four top-10 finishes at the Western States 100 across multiple decades of competition, including second place in 2016, demonstrating a durability and consistency rare in the sport. Beyond racing, she completed the 662km Jordan Trail FKT in 2020, covering the full cross-country route of Jordan in 8 days, 9 hours, and 28 minutes — a full day faster than the previous record. She is an ambassador for Free to Run, an organisation that uses outdoor adventure to empower women and girls in conflict-affected regions.
