About
Amy Costa is an American trail runner whose route into ultrarunning began after a career as a conflict journalist in Yemen and Iraq, followed by a stint as a wildland firefighter for the U.S. Forest Service in Ketchum, Idaho. Introduced to trail racing in 2018 by her crew chief, a serious ultrarunner, she relocated to Flagstaff, Arizona and quickly accumulated over 50 finishes across distances from 24 kilometres to 100 miles, winning several events along the way. Her story — of stepping away from journalism to find a second home in trail running — was documented in a 2023 essay for iRunFar, and reflects the sport's unique capacity to attract athletes with unusually varied life paths.
