About
Alain Santamaría Blanco is a Spanish mountain running champion from Ezcaray, La Rioja, who rose from local trail races to become one of Spain's most decorated mountain athletes. Introduced to running by his father at age seven, he discovered trail running at 14 and eventually left his job as a maintenance worker to pursue the sport full-time. His dedication has yielded a remarkable set of titles: ISF SKY & VK World Championship gold, a World Mountain Athletics championship, and triple bronze medals at the European Championships. In 2025 he won the ETC (Espectacle Trail Cortals) at UTMB and placed 4th at the Trail World Championships Short Trail. He was also the first Spaniard to reach the Golden Trail Series Finals, and his story of amateur-to-world-champion is one of the sport's most compelling narratives.
