About
Abby Hall (born 1991) is an American ultrarunner from Flagstaff, Arizona whose 2025 Western States 100 victory stands as one of the sport's great comeback narratives. She began working with coach Jason Koop in 2017 and climbed steadily through the ultra ranks — earning a 28-hour debut finish at Leadville 100 in 2019, placing second at Canyons 100k in 2021, making the CCC podium in both 2021 and 2022, and winning Transvulcania and finishing second at Transgrancanaria in 2022. Then, less than a mile from home on an ordinary training run, a simple misstep caused a knee hyperextension that broke her tibial plateau and tore most of her knee ligaments — an injury that required a bone graft, LCL reconstruction, tibiofibular joint reconstruction, and medial meniscus repair, followed by a battle with deep vein thrombosis in her calf. Almost exactly two years after that day, and just 20 months after returning to competition, she won Western States 100 in 16:37:16, the fourth-fastest women's time in the race's history. Named third in the 2025 Worldwide UltraRunner of the Year standings, Hall embodies the mental resilience that defines elite ultrarunning at its best.
